We are currently in the process of remodeling our living room . . . .

I LOVE this style fireplace, but feel like it would get rather dirty since we still have a wood stove and not a gas fireplace.

Anybody know what material the white mantel is made of?

Also, would love to hear about any websites to go to for design inspiration!! :)

Bryce & Bowen's Birthday Party!

My niece, Bryce, and my nephew, Bowen, celebrated their 3rd and 1st birthdays (respectively) in August.

I really can't believe they are that old already! Time sure flies when you are having fun!

Bryce was a princess!

And Bowen was a prince!

These two have made my life better in so many ways! Bryce is starting to interact so much more and say the cutest, most funny things! And Bowen is starting to interact more too and actually ran to give me a hug! Melted my heart! I really don't know how they can get any cuter, but it always seems to happen! I can't wait to watch them grow and learn even more!

Sky High Adventure Park!

For our 4th anniversary, Shaney & I went to Sky High Adventure Park at Holiday Valley in Ellicottville, NY!

It was an outdoor adventure with an aerial park and a mountain coaster!

Our trip to Germany started our love for these kinds of zip line parks!

Let me tell you the difference though . . . in Germany it was $15 cheaper per person and you got to stay in the park all day, where as at Holiday Valley you only had a 3 hour pass.

It was definitely a lot more "idiot-proof" here in the US. The way the mechanisms work, you always had to be on a safety line so you never felt like you were going to fall. (It was still scary sometimes though!) The obstacle Shane is on in the above picture, those pegs you put your feet on would roll if you didn't have your weight distributed correctly.

Shane thinks the obstacles at Sky High were a lot easier than the ones in Germany, but I felt like it was pretty similar. There might have been 1 or 2 harder obstacles in Germany.

After the ropes course we got to ride a mountain coaster!

We were going to go to Hocking Hills instead, but Sky High was a lot closer! We definitely had a blast and are so glad we went! :)

Germany & Paris . . Here We Come!

It's official!!

Shaney and I booked our flights to Germany last night! :)

We are going to visit Shane's brother Dan, and his wife, Marissa!

We are also going to visit Paris, France!

EXCITED!!!!

Any suggestions of where to go, where to stay, what to do in Paris?!

Lady A Concert @ The Crawford County Fair!

Last weekend Shaney and I went to the Crawford County Fair with his brother (Bry) and Bry's wife (Sommer)! I was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited to see my favorite band, Lady Antebellum.

Below, Stealing Angels, opened for them.

They were ok. Cute girls. Good voices. Nothing I'd write to home about.

They played some party songs after Stealing Angels, before Lady A to get people pumped, and this older lady was getting jiggy with it! We (entire row in front and behind us) were all snickering about her, but really . . . I hope I can still enjoy myself that much when I'm her age, because she was having a blast! You go girl!

Such. An. AMAZZZZING. Concert.

I feel bad for the people in front of me because I was singing along to every song they played (being in chorus in grade school and high school did me no help)!

I was LOVING every single minute of this concert. I got so lost in their music and the performance!

I mean seriously . . . aren't they awesome?!

Here is where they wanted us to sing!

Have you heard of the song A Little Bit Stronger that Sara Evans sings? Did you know that Hillary Scott from Lady A wrote that song?!

She did! And here she is singing it! I just love how Charles Kelley is looking at her all proud! So cute! Makes me think this band will last a long time, which makes me super happy considering every song on their first 2 albums (only 2 so far) are amazing!!

You know the routine . . "Thanks for coming! We love you guys! See you later!" . . .

"Oh ok. I guess we'll do an encore since you stayed and cheered for us!" I mean. . do they really even have to pretend anymore?! But still. . . glad they came back out and performed one of their songs off their new album, Just A Kiss!

I can't wait until their new album comes out September 13th!!! Thanks for an amazing concert Lady A & the Crawford County Fair! It made the 45 minute wait just to get out of the parking lot worth it!! :)

Lakehouse : The Crew!

A couple weekends ago Shane and I got to take KC, Mase, Josh, Nikkie, Matt, KT, & Mike to the lakehouse! It was a blast!

We had buffalo chicken tacos for lunch when we got there:

The next morning we had eggs and toast and fruit and juice and donuts! Yum!

July 20th was the last Beach 1 Concert Series for the season. I think everyone in Erie was there.

We had to park waaaay past Beach 1.

Baby, You're A Firework!

July 4th was kinda low key for us. I had to work that day and my cat was dying, so I really wasn't feeling up to lots of partying and such, but we had my parents come over to hang out with us and watch the fireworks in our back yard!

Beach 1 Concert Series!

Last week my parents, Shane, and I took the pups with us to the Beach 1 Concert Series @ Presque Isle!

It was a beautiful night!

We kept our distance because we weren't really sure if dogs were allowed there or not. We thought it was busy when we went last week, but wait until I show you and tell you about our trip there this past Wednesday!

Bria LOVED it. Both her and Behren went swimming.

Mommy & Me QUAD : 12 Mile Bike

July 9, 2011, my Mommy & I did our 2nd annual QUAD 12 Mile Bike Ride on the beautiful country roads of Edinboro! We were lucky and got to start in the morning before it got too hot outside!

Mom got to start 4 minutes before I did, and it took me about 6 miles to catch her! I was completely drenched in sweat and so exhausted trying to catch up - aka - I'm so out of shape. I could have sworn there were people with motors on their bikes, because I don't think it is physically possible to go as fast as they were!

But we finished together and we beat our time from last year by 4 minutes!

We only rode our bikes once before that race, so I'm happy we beat our time!

Next up is the 5 mile run! We went "running" together last Sunday at the beach . . it was CRAAZZZY there. People everywhere. Cars everywhere. And it was a million degrees out. But I loved every minute of it. Can't wait until September! More exercise and quality time with my mommy! :-)

Erie Zoo Trip with Our Niece & Nephew!

July 4th weekend, we also took our niece, Bryce, and our nephew, Bowen, to the Erie Zoo! My parents had a zoo membership (and came with us), but did you know that the zoo is only $8 for adults (I think it's funny they say "adults 13 and over" though . . really? 13 is an adult. Come on.) and only $5 for children 2-12?! And free for 2 and under! I really thought it was going to be more expensive than that though! They have made so many awesome improvements over the year to the zoo and if you haven't gone in a while, you definitely need to make a trip to the zoo!

We saw just about every animal there!

But we all got to go on the train!! The kids were getting pretty tired towards the end of the zoo trip. We were there for about 2 1/2 hours and just made it to the car in time for the kids to fall asleep! So glad we have such a fun place to go to in Erie to take our niece and nephew and teach them all about animals!

Over July 4th weekend, we headed out to the lake house again! First stop . . . flea market!

A couple toys were bought, but nothing big.

Rest in peace my beautiful kitty. I cherished all 22 wonderful years I had with you!

I remember the day we got you and Mom and Dad wanted me to get you because you were the laid back, sleepy one. We sure showed them! As I vroomed down the hall on my little red tricycle, close behind you ran and batted the attached ribbon that followed me.

You were my one and only sibling. My baby sister. You let me put you in my baby carriage and push you around the house and even the block.

We made tents together in the living room and cuddled under the sleeping bag with Raggedy Anne and Ocelot.

You loved when we crumpled up paper in a ball and played fetch and pickle in the middle.

The best mornings were when I woke up to you looking right at me. Purring on my chest. Wanting for me to pet you.

I loved that you let me brush you all the time.
I loved that you laid perfectly in my lap.
I love that you licked my tears when I was sad.
I love that I got to enjoy you for 22 years.
I love that mommy and daddy made me pick you as our kitty.
I love that you loved us so unconditionally and for so long.

I was listening to my Lady A CD today on my way to work. That's right. Work on July 4th. After 4 hours of work in the office I spent two more hours petting, brushing, and feeding my dying 22 year old cat with a syringe. So, it's been a great day. On my way home, I got to #11 on the CD. One Day You Will. It really sums up my feelings at this moment in time.

The other day we saw Mrs. Snapping Turtle again in our yard.

I watched her for about 10 minutes and then followed her around for a good 15-20 minutes after that . . . .

Turtles are slow.

With no luck in seeing her laying her eggs (and my patience running out), I decided to call it a day.

For Father's Day, my mommy & daddy & Behren came over and we headed to Asbury Woods for a fun nature walk with the pups!

Behren & Bria were so excited to go swimming in the creek!

After the fun walk, we headed back to our house for a cook out!

Memorial Day Boating Adventures!

Memorial Day we went to the cottage in Chautauqua to enjoy the fam and some sun! Here is Shaney with his wonderful mommy!

We also got to see the new 22' aqua patio pontoon boat! Very fun!

Brian & Bibi kayaked for their very first time.

As we headed out on the boat to Chautauqua Lake through the canal, you could really see how much the water levels were raised!

Aly was soooo excited! This girl has no fear! She wanted to go tubing by herself and swim by herself (don't worry - we didn't let her)!

After 20 minutes of twisting Shane's arm, he finally agreed (I pushed him out of the boat) to go on the tube with me! We had fun!

No swimming for Shane or I, the water was FREEZING, but Brian, Bibi, & Aly were brave souls!

As were Bria and Majr! Bria was soooo excited after her swim. She got on the boat and was running back and forth and jumping up and down and wanted to go back out there!

Mother's Day Race!

On Mother's Day morning, some of my girls and our mothers decided to do the Erie Runners Club Mother's Day 5K Race at Presque Isle. It ended up being a beautiful day out for the 3.1 mile run/walk.

Here is cousin Jen (to Nikkie), Nikkie's mom, and Nikkie. I believe it was Nikkie's idea to do this since her mom works at the Barber Center, and the race benefited that organization.

Easter Goods!

We celebrated Easter with my grandma on Saturday this year. We picked her up from her new home and brought her back to our house for dinner and some cake!

Bria got a new toy from Grammy & Grampy that she was super excited about! (she really was excited about it)

Sunday we went to church and got to spend the day with Shane's family. His mommy and Bowen being all cute!

SKANK Book Club - Meeting 1 - The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Easter weekend us girls, the S KANKs, finally got to get together to discuss our first book for the Book Club that we started. All Booked Up. We all have busy lives these days and 2 of the girls live in Pittsburgh, so it's quite the feat to get us all together . . . but we finally found a day and time and place (The Cove), that worked!

I wasn't sure how the first meeting would go since none of us have really done a book club before, but I think it went rather well! It was quite the crazy book and had lots of things to discuss. Plus, we Googled questions before hand as well.

I think we were all in agreement that the book was sick, but good. And in the end we decided we are going to take a break from the rest of the series so we can read Water for Elephants and then go watch the movie that just came out!

We thought the day was going to be cold and rainy, but it ended up being beautiful, so we hung out on the dock and caught up on everyone's lives!

I love these girls!

Question is . . how long until we get together again to discuss Book 2 - Water for Elephants? Will we really all be done by the end of June?

Mommy & Me QUAD : 100 Yard Swim

April 10th, Mommy and I continued our annual tradition (2nd year) of the QUAD by completing the 100 yard swim.

Last year we swam twice before the actual event (aka - went to the Y and talked in the pool). This year the QUAD had a swim program at the Y where you could go 4 times before the event and an instructor would help you out with what you needed to work on. We had such a blast and it really was helpful!

I learned how to go off the starting blocks (even though the instructor swear I already knew).

And I was able to swim the front crawl the entire 100 yards, where as last year I had to resort to the backstroke for about half (I couldn't breathe! I realize that 100 yards sounds like nothing, but you should try it!)

I finished first in my heat.

And I dropped a honkin 14 seconds off my time from last year! (1:27 to 1:13)
Not to make excuses, but I also just started doing Insanity that week too, so I'm pretty happy with my time!

Birthday Mase! 27th on the 27th!

March 27th was Mase's 27th birthday! Fun, right?!

Mase is one of my BFF's. We go way back (one of these days I'm gonna go through all my non-digital pics and scan them all in so I can post embarrassing pics of all my friends).

She's the A to the SKANKs.

Believe it or not, she does enjoy hanging out with us . . . . .

She's always the life of the party . . .

And is the woman of a million faces . . .

But seriously, she's one of my best friends. She is one of the most beautiful people I know. Both inside and out. She makes me laugh so hard and her heart is just as emotional as mine. She loves kitties. And she is an amazzzzzing cooker/baker. We always try to have her make the food when we all get together because it's always so good. Her chicken enchiladas . . . delish! She's there for you when you need her, and there for you when you need someone to bring you back down to earth. Without her, I probably wouldn't have learned about one of my favorite sports . . . volleyball. I tried out for the team my senior year of high school because of her, and ever since then we've been great friends and have been playing volleyball together. Mase is also an amazing interior designer with a great fashion sense all the way around. Her voice . . . awesome. Her love for Jesus. . . awesome. Her love for her family and for her friends . . . amazing.

Thanks for being one awesome, amazing person Amy Grace! So blessed to have you in my life!

Orlando Vacation!

Hey, remember when we were going to go to Florida for our "Happy Birthday to Us We Need a Vacation - Orlando Sun & Fun" trip?

Well, we finally went! (back at the beginning of March) . .

We got into Orlando 15 minutes early at 10:10pm-ish. We got our rental car (just wait until you see it. It's pretty sweet . . ), and headed on our 30 minute drive to our resort. . .oh what's that?! There are toll roads where you HAVE to use cash. . and we don't have any.

Shane : "Do you take credit or debit card?"
Toll guy: "no. we don't. cash only."
Shane: "we don't have any cash"
Toll guy: " . . .. "
Shane: "we don't have any cash"
Toll guy: ". . . . "
Shane to me: "What do we do?"
Me : " i don't know . . i don't have any cash. they don't take debit card?"
Shane: "No. just cash."

. .. after about 5 minutes of us just sitting there and them not doing or saying anything, i finally remembered that i brought emergency cash in case we needed it. Gosh. Don't forget there are toll roads like every 1/2 mile from each other in Florida and you need CASH. (but do forget that I was an idiot who almost didn't have any cash on me).

And now for our swagger wagon . . .

err. . I mean . . granny car! Shane was holding his walker in this pic. I was so bummed. I'm never doing "special car" again. "Pick special car and get a mid-size car or greater at an economy price!"

Universal Orlando has two parks. . . Islands of Adventure and the one we went to on our first day, Universal Studios.

It was great. The lines were so short! Most every ride (except a few) you could either walk right on or have a short 5-10 minute wait. It's the way every amusement park should be.

View of the park. I wasn't too impressed with the "atmosphere" and landscaping of this park. It was nice, but it didn't have that "magical" feel that Disney World gives you.

The shows were awesome. This is from the animal actors show. I'll talk more in detail in the separate post I'm going to do about which rides/shows are worth doing/seeing.

From the parking lot to the actual park was quite a hike (I didn't mind it too much but I can't imagine having lots of kiddos and gramps and grams walking that much). But you get to walk through City Walk, the "entertainment hotspot". Lots of clubs. Restaurants. A Movie Theater. A Surf board. (We asked a little kid if he would take our picture, and he went and asked his mom first. I thought that was cute).

Day 1 ends (Man, walking around parks is exhausting! When did I get so old!?)

It was nice. Shane's awesome mommy let us share her timeshare with them. We wish we could have actually had some overlap of our vacations, but we got there late Tuesday night and they left early Wednesday morning.

Day 2 . . BIG day! One of the biggest reasons we (I) wanted to go to Florida . . . The Wizarding World of Harry Potter!! . . wait for it . . .

We pretty much got there right when they opened and high stepped it right over to the WWOHP because we knew it would just get busier as the day went on. Of course we had to stop and get a couple pictures on the way though . . .

It was just amazing to see everything you read about and all the movies you watched come to life. Shane almost left me when I started to cry. I said, "don't you think it's awesome?!" And his reply was . . "yeah, but I'm not going to cry about it." Ha!

Ugh. Just incredible.

We went to this first because the ride was already a 30 minute wait and we knew it would just get worse as the day went on. I had to lock my purse in a locker for this ride, so unfortunately I didn't get many pictures. The inside was a line to the ride, but you got to see different parts from the books/movies . . like the hour glasses that showed which house was winning, it showed the triwizard cup, it had holograms of Ron, Harry, and Hermoine, and of Dumbledore. I really can't remember all the real names for all of these things, but it had the lady that you needed to give the password to in order to get into the Gryffindor wing. It had the pictures of all the old wizards on the wall and they were all talking to each other and moving around. It was pretty sweet. They called you muggles throughout the entire castle, and when you were getting on the ride they called you a muggle again, so i said "I'M A WIZARD!" and the guy said "no you're not! if anything you'd be a WITCH!" Ohhhhh snap.

I was surprised how quick we went through this park. I thought we would've spent more time at this park than Universal Studios, but we were done by like 2pm! So we ended up going back to WWOHP to check it out again.

You could pick from two different kinds of butterbeer . . . frozen (slushy) and cold (just liquid). You could also pay $7 extra for the souvenir glass (yes. I'm a sucker . . and it's not even dishwasher or microwave safe!)! I recommend trying both. If you are more thirsty, get the cold (and drink it fast b/c it doesn't taste as good when warmer).

After we had our last butter beer, we decided to call it a day. Two days walking around at parks is exhausting! (I seriously feel so old).

Day 3 . . . relaxing day at the resort!
I went outside that morning to take a picture of the pool and turned around and Shane locked me out . .

We decided to play some tennis:

Shane kept hitting the balls out of the court too much, so we got tired of chasing and decided to start jumping around instead (we were jumpers in high school and in college):

Then the resort had a free lunch barbeque so we headed over to the pool area a little early to get a good spot and relax:

Later that day we went to Walmart for some things and saw this:

No one seemed to care though . . . they must get these every day. . but we were pretty excited about it!

And I don't know why I find birds so fun, but this was my favorite part of Gatorland (until we go next time and their zip line course is open):

Then we got to feed the crocs (hotdogs), but the birds kept trying to steal the food!!

Then we headed to our hotel (our resort was a time share only good until Saturday, so we got a nice hotel on priceline for Saturday night).

This was funny because when we went in to explore the rest of the hotel, a guy came up to us and said "could you see me?" and we said "what?" apparently he was smiling and waving from the inside when I took this picture.

After that we headed back to our hotel . . . we needed to get up bright and early to catch our 6am flight.

Luella Mae Myers Wells Obituary: View Luella Wells's Obituary by Erie Times-News

My Grandma Lou passed away yesterday, March 8th, at 11:15am.

This same exact day, but 19 years ago, my grandfather passed away.

As my grandmothers breathing became weaker and weaker and they knew her time was near, my uncle told my grandma to "go dance with dad". And with a nod of her head she went dancing with Grandpa.

Although this time is so devastating and sad, it is also filled with rejoice and comfort. My grandma suffered with Alzheimers for 11 years. And now she is free again. No more pain, no more suffering. She is with Jesus and that brings me so much relief.

She sure is missed already though. I will never forget how she would sing with me when we watched the sound of music together and I would dance around. Her voice really was angelic. I will always remember her love of Sean Connery and her beautiful flowers in her yard, especially the lilac bush. She was always so supportive and so loving. Her hugs were the best hugs in the world and her emotional nature was definitely passed down to me.

As she was sick in bed those last couple of days, she looked me straight in the eyes and told me she loved me. That moment I will never ever forget. It is bottled up in my brain and heart forever. I love you Grandma. Dance away!

KC's Birthday! & MM&M!

Today marks a special day . . . one of my BFF's 27th birthday (Happy Birthday KC!)!!

I cannot imagine my life without her. It's a funny story, because we were never friends (but she hung out with my elementary friends, and I hung out with her elementary friends --- same people) until 7th grade. Once 7th grade hit, God gave us all the same classes together, and we instantly bonded! We kicked major bum in our home ec class . . always getting bonus points for being done first in the class, having extra clean and extra dry dishes, and for the yumminess of our concoctions (let's forget about the time where I took the biscuits out of the oven and burned my hand and the cookie sheet flew and all the biscuits fell all over the floor).

We then did cheerleading and auxiliary (flag & dance team) together where our bond got even closer! And although we had completely different majors in college, we ended up being "undecided" for the first two years, so we were able to take the same classes, and I crashed at her dorm room a lot.

Kristen is one of the most thoughtful, unselfish people I know. She always knows some how when I'm in a sad or bad mood, and knows exactly what to do and say to make me feel better. She's recommended me for several different awards/speeches in college, and I know without her, I wouldn't have received the experiences and the opportunities that I did.

If I want a good laugh, I hang out with her. . if I want a REALLY good laugh, I just give her some gin and tonic.

If I ever need fashion advice or home decorating tips, or for someone to help me with words, she's it! And if I ever need a shoulder to cry on or someone to celebrate with me, she's it!

So blessed to have her in my life and so proud to call her one of my best friends!

Oh. . also! The SKANKs are getting together tomorrow to celebrate KC & I's birthdays. KC dibbed it as "MM&M"! Mexican, margaritas, and movies! Love these girls and can't wait! I'm going to make them do Just Dance 2 and take video and post it on here.

Shane and I went skiing a couple weekends ago. This was my first time this season and only his second. You would think with living in a place like Erie we'd find more weekends to go. I'm starting to get nervous with all these high temps that we won't be able to go again this year before all the snow melts!

Grandma's 82nd Birthday!

My grandma turned 82 on February 9, 2011!

She didn't know how old she was, and I think she was kinda confused as to why everyone kept saying "happy birthday", but she's always a sucker for cake and presents, so she went with it.

A new coat!

One of her kitties (brother to our 2 kitties) & her birdie! Definitely get my love of animals from this woman! And my love of sweets! And maybe my forgetfulness too. . . .

But really, it was great to be able to celebrate her 82nd birthday! I sure do love her.

p.s. - Happy Valentine's Day!! Nothing big planned for us. Nice, relaxing dinner at home. . . Shane is also going to give me a back and foot massage, although he doesn't know it yet.

Universal Orlando - Suggestions?

Shaney and I are taking a "Happy Birthday to Us We Need a Vacation - Orlando Sun and Fun" trip!

Although we have both been to Disney World several times, we have never made it to Universal. Harry Potter World is definitely on the top of our (my) list, but we will be going to both Universal Studios and Universal Islands of Adventure.

Any ride suggestions or tips for Universal are greatly appreciated and welcomed!!!

Mommy's 50th Birthday!

Tuesday was my mother's 50th birthday (shh! don't tell her I told you how old she is . . . not that the decorating doesn't give it away)!

That day, I spent my entire lunch hour decorating their house. Jumping up and down like a little Mexican bean trying to get all those spirals hung from the ceiling. But it was a good work out, and well worth it for my mommy.

I asked my mommy what she wanted to do for her 50th . . . NYC, Toronto, surprise party, skydiving, spa day . . . but she just said she wanted a quiet night with my dad, shane, and I. . . so that's what she got.

I got her a fun shirt and this framed piece from pictures of the quad that we did together. The 100 yard swim, the 12 mile bike, the 5 mile run, and the 2.5 mile snowshoe.

Thank you sooooooo much to my awesome hubby for his engraving skills (it has our times engraved in the frame along with "Mommy & Me Quad . . 2010 - 2011). And to one of my BFF's, KT, for her graphic design skills in laying out the pics for me.

My mom kept saying she didn't even feel old until she realized I was going to be turning 27 in a few weeks. (Does that make me old too?!)

I personally think that for 50, she looks awesome . . . and I told her she acts like she's 30, so she's good.

We had a wonderful night and it was so good to spend time with my mommy. No matter how old I get, there's nothing like snuggling in my mommy's arms.

The Car Accident . . .

RIP Green Hornet, aka The Cheetah, aka the 1997 Oldsmobile Achieva, aka Shane's Baby

Friday, January 21st, Shane called me a little after 5pm . . .
Shane - "I was in an accident . . . I'm ok, but . . I was in an accident."
Me - "Oh my gosh. Are you ok?! What happened?!" (my heart stopped beating and then started pumping a million miles a minute, my stomach also jumped into my throat)
Shane - "I'm ok. I was in an accident."
Me - "Where are you? Can I come meet you?"
Shane - "Yeah. Sure. Come to the country fair up by 90."
Me - "Ok. I will be right there."

As I pulled up to the scene, I knew his car was totaled, and the first thing I did was look for him. To make sure he really was ok. And there he was on the side of the road laughing with a couple people. Whew. Well if he's laughing, he must be ok, right?! He was. And it was so good to see that with my own eyes. But I still just wanted to hold him in my arms really tight.

Long story short, a girl pulled out in front of Shane and he couldn't stop in time. This was one of the days where it was almost negative out because of the wind chill, and Shane had to stay out in the cold from 5:15 - 7ish. When he finally came over to me after the cops came and took the report, he was like ice. I just hated how I had to sit there, and there wasn't anything I could do.

After the crash, the windshield cracked, the airbags deployed (which he didn't even really notice), and after putting the car in park and turning the ignition off, the car was still running. It ran for a good 10 minutes after he turned it off (it wasn't giving up without a fight), but eventually the cheetah stopped . . . for good.

The other insurance company didn't get Shane a rental car until the 26th, and he has to return it February 1st . . . . . we are still looking for a vehicle, but are unsure of what we should get since Shane and I mostly carpool to work and back. I think we are leaning towards another SUV . . or maybe a minivan. Any suggestions for those types of vehicles?

We really didn't get that much from insurance for his car (it was a 1997 Oldsmobile Achieva after all), but Shane left that accident without a scratch on him, and for that we thank God. He really was with Shane on that day, and we are so grateful for that.

Mommy & Me Quad : 2.5 Mile Snowshoe

Last Sunday, my mommy and I did the last leg of the quad . . . the 2.5 mile snowshoe! (The competitive participants had to do a 5 mile cross country ski).

It was a blast! And so great to finish the last part. We did it all. And we did it together.

We stayed in the back to start. .. it was crazy up front!!

We passed a guy on the way that fell in like 4 feet of snow. My my mom said, "are you ok?!" The guy said, "Yep." . . my mom said, "I missed it." The guy said, "it was a pretty good face plant." And then I found $5 . . . . .

All done! What a great way to get out and exercise, and even better to do it with my awesome mommy! You should sign up for next year! April 10th. 100 Yard Swim. Who's in?!

All Booked Up!

My friends and I started a book club that is rightfully named "All Booked Up" (check out our blog) . . because well, we are always so busy, but we wanted something that would give us an excuse to have to get together sooner rather than later . . .

I apparently need to get my butt in gear, because everyone is further along than I am. (The first two chapters are boring so far . . but I heard it gets better . . .. and more awkward).

Girls Weekend! : Lake House!

Oh hi. It's been a while. Lots has been going on, but let's start with the girls weekend we had the weekend before Christmas.

In October, we (S.K.A.N.K.) decided we needed to get together. Unfortunately, the ONLY weekend that worked for everyone was the weekend right before Christmas, but at least we found a weekend! And we made it work.

My awesome mother-in-law and father-in-law were nice enough to let us borrow their Chautauqua lake house for the weekend.

We headed out late Friday night . . . . . when we got there, we ate some buffalo chicken dip and drank some drinkies while we had a pillow fight in our pajamas . . . . while playing guesstures.

Even though we went to bed past 2am, on Saturday we got up early to explore Chautauqua.

First we headed to the Chautauqua Institute. Apparently, in the summer, you have to pay a gate fee of $35 just to get in. In the winter, it's free, so we drove around to look at all the expensive houses we will never be able to afford.

Then we headed to Mazza Chautauqua Cellars. It was very fun and only $2 to try 6 different types of wines. The "wine guy" was probably the best "wine guy" we've ever had. He was very fun and very knowledgeable about the wine/winery/harvesting/etc.

KT's mom told us about this book store that was going out of business, so we decided to check it out. Every book was $2 or less.

Next stop was Southern Tier Brewing Company. HIGHLY recommend this brewery. The atmosphere was awesome, and the tour was great! We had a fun tour guide and the "president of the beer club" was in our tour (aka - 20 questions). For one who doesn't normally like beer, I participated in the tasting anyways ($8 for tour, fun souvenir glass, and 5 or 6 different beer tastings - we got to fill our glasses half full each time), and I'm so glad I did. Found out I was not a fan of Pale Ale (holy Pine tree), but did enjoy the Choklat Stout and the Raspberry Wheat Beer. Yummo!

We were all having "a lot of fun" by the end of the tour and decided to stick around for a bit while we umm . . . . sobered up (aka - drank more beer). But really . . . . the driver (thanks KC!) sobered up while everyone else drank more.

Then we eventually headed back to the lake house for Mexican night!

Sex and the City the Movie (we had to drink every time Carrie changed outfits or anytime anything "sexual" came on . . . . we had to adjust this a bit because those happened too often).

I just know I really love these girls. We go back to grade school (some of us even earlier than that), and I know we will be best friends forever. Every time we get together, it's right where we left off, and we learn more and more about each other and get closer and closer. I feel truly blessed to have each and every one of them in my life and can't wait for our friendships to grow even stronger.

Wow. It's been busy. Insane. I don't know where my mind is . . . so if you find it, please let me know.

This time of year is bittersweet. Bitter because work is crazy. Too crazy. Mental asylum crazy. End of year close, forecasting next year, account recs, rep letters, auditing, new computer . . just to name a few. Sweet because I do love the holidays. So fun. And my mood instantly lifts when listening to Christmas songs and snuggling with my family by the glowing fire with the Christmas tree all lit up.

I am kinda happy with the Christmas shopping progress this year. I am about 90% done (including the wrapping), and that also makes me one happy camper (I won't lie that also about 90% of that was done online - it's something I like to call smart shopping).

Also, one of the best things about the holiday is that I get to see all my friends and family!

Next weekend we are having a girls weekend and the weekend after that is Christmas already (holy cow)! I thrive and live on my family and friends. They are my #1 priority in life, and I love it. I love them. Which is a good thing since we are going to have 10 different Christmas gatherings.

Bowen, my nephew, was dedicated at church two weeks ago.

I think he was upset here because Bryce came back down to sit with us. . . . At first they (Sommer, Bry, Bowen) all went up alone, but Bryce then cried and wanted to be with them. So grammy took Bryce up. But then she cried and wanted back down. So grammy came and got her. I thought it was funny. Not sure what the rest of the congregation thought.

Thanks to my awesome mother-in-law for this one:

A Dog's Purpose . . .

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhoundnamed Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa , and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for theold dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker 's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.
Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, ''I know why.''

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me I'd never heard a more comforting explanation. It has changed the way I try and live.

He said,''People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?'' The Six-year-old continued,

''Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.''

Live simply.

Love generously.

Care deeply.

Speak kindly.

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.

Bria - Our New Pup!

Well. It's official. She's just too good to be true!

(You really don't need to read this, it's more for my memory sake). As you know, we adopted Bria from the Humane Society on Thursday, October 21, 2010. We had gone in the Saturday before and saw her in her little kennel and just instantly fell in love. However, she wasn't available at the time because she still needed to be spayed. We weren't even allowed to take her in a room to see how we all got along. But we asked the front desk about when she'd be available and they originally told us we could get her on Friday at noon as long as her Thursday spay surgery went well (first come, first serve). I also asked if they would move the surgery to a different day and they said no. So I called on Tuesday to make sure our application went through ok and to see if she was still scheduled for for surgery on Thursday. They told me our application was good and that her surgery was now on Wednesday and she would be available Thursday at 11. Ok. Gosh. Good thing I called. We knew we'd have to be there right when they opened or even before to make sure we got her because it is first come, first serve, and we did know that there were other people interested in her. (Nervewreck City!)

So Thursday, we both left work early and I told Shane to make sure he went and stood in line at the door as soon as he got there. He called me while he was standing in line (my meeting at work went late) and said there were a few people in cars waiting, but no one in line. So as I pulled up, I saw this other couple give me the "nervous, anxious, you better not be here for Bria" look. So I got nervous too. I immediately got out of my car (after I parked and turned it off, of course), and went and stood in line with Shane (this was about 10 minutes until they opened). Then the other couple got out and came and stood in line except (AHHH!) the guy came and stood behind us, but his wife stood on the other side at the other entrance door!! Oh my gosh. What if they opened her door first?! We wouldn't get our pup! :-( So getting more anxious and nervous . . . then finally at 11am, the lady comes to our side and unlocks the door. Whew. Safe.

We walk in and immediately the guy behind us says to the humane society lady, "we are here for Bria". (My heart stopped beating). Oh my gosh. We lost her. They spoke up first. So they get her. But then, my awesome hubby says, "we are actually here for Bria too." And the lady then says, "well it's first come first serve, so . . " At first, I wasn't completely sure she meant us, but then the guy said, "so they get the dog because they were here before us?!" And the lady said, "yes. that is how it works." Guy says, "are you kidding me?! they get the dog because they were here first?!" Guy's wife then says, "honey, let's just go."

So we went in a room and got to make sure we still loved her, and yep! She was definitely a lot more hyper than we remembered, but we still fell in love all over again! "We'll take her!" (We were nervous to go back outside in case that other couple was still there, but whew. . they were gone. I do feel bad for them though. I would've been a wreck if roles were reversed.)

So we filled out the paper work and handed over the dough ($100 - which really isn't bad considering they gave her shots, dewormed her, and spayed her)! And then they gave us our Bria (we thought about changing the name, but liked Bria)!

We took off the rest of the day to spend with her and introduce her to our kitties (aka - make sure she didn't kill them).

I also was lucky enough to work from home on Friday to make sure that Bria could adjust (and I could take her for a long walk at lunch time).

Then we had the whole weekend. We made sure to get her used to her crate (threw in lots of toys, treats, blankets, fed her in there, and gave a lot of "good girl" praising!). We didn't leave her alone until Sunday when we tried to go to church but it took me 40 minutes just to leave her. . . I was so scared and sad and kept peeking in through the window to see if she was being good. So needless to say, we missed church, but had to get some groceries real quick. She did well and we can now leave her at home while we are at work and she is good the whole time (knock on wood)! I do think crating is a good thing for a dog, but I also feel bad leaving them so confined for so long, so she gets full access to our room off the kitchen (gated off) with her open crate, toys, blankets, and water. That way she has room to play and stretch too. She has outsmarted the gate a couple times and has actually done very well with complete access to our entire house, but I feel like our kitties need some time by themselves (because Bria ALWAYS wants to play with them. . . did I tell you she's super hyper?!). Wow, I'm writing a book. Sorry. I told you that you didn't have to read this.

Anyways, we really felt like she was too good to be true. She did/does need some obedience training but is already doing so well! She sits, "downs", shakes, waits, stays, and "gives mommy and daddy kisses". She also pulled us really bad when first walking, but after 2 or 3 walks she caught on and is doing awesome now. Walks right next to us.

I just don't understand why her past owners gave her up. We went to the vet and she got a clean bill of health. The only thing I can think of is they didn't know how to train her or they just didn't have the time to train her. Because really . . she is awesome. And we already love her so much!

The Cousins @ Winter Green Gorge!

One nice day this month, Shane and I went to the Winter Green Gorge (Cemetery) to take some pictures of my cousins and their kids! At first, the youngest, Tyler, was a little shy, but we decided to get right into taking some pictures so it would loosen him up.

This was actually kinda nerve wrecking for me because it was my first "official photo shoot". I thought it would be harder to pose them and what not, but they worked so well with me! (I am not by any means a professional photographer nor do I consider myself a good photographer, but I do love taking pictures, especially for family, so I had a blast!)

Wanted to introduce you to our newest member of the family.

Bria

We got her last Thursday from humane society and so far so good. She needs a lot of obedience training but besides that we can't complain. (she's already potty trained).

The kitties have been adjusting well and when we left Bria's leash on, they were chasing her around the house.

I love our little zoo, but man these pets shed!

Anybody have any good finds to keep the shedding at bay or at least some good products to get rid of hair (besides vacuum)?

Looking forward to a nice weekend day so we can take her to the peninsula (she couldn't go this past weekend because she's still healing from being spayed). I have a feeling she loves the water (I turned on the hose to wash off her paws and she full on stuck her head in the spray of the water).

Excited to learn more about her but for now .... some more obedience training.

Sit. Stay. Down. Shake. Wait. Come. Those are the ones we are working on for now...

Parents 31st Anniversary!

For my parents 31st anniversary, we went to the Sloppy Duck for dinner and then headed over to see the sunset on the lake.

I cannot begin to say how proud I am of my parents for their 31 years of marriage. Yeah they've had lots of ups and downs, what marriage doesn't?! But they prevailed and as their only daughter (and child), there is no greater gift they could give me.

This is one of my favorite pictures of them (taken on their 31st anniversary). It just shows how head over heels my mom still is for my dad. I'm sure my dad feels the same way, right dad!?

An anniversary is a time to celebrate the joys of today, the memories of yesterday, and the hopes of tomorrow.

Mommy and Me Quad! 5 Mile Run!

Saturday, September 11, 2010, my mother and I competed in the third event in the quad! The 5 mile run! It started at 9am in North East, and after only being 44 degrees out when we woke up, it warmed up fast and ended up being beautiful weather for the run (through the amazing smelling grape vines).

Do you see us?! Although you might think your heart should be pounding most at the end of the race, mine was pumping the fastest at the beginning. The suspense. The anticipation. The rocky music. The "runners on your marks . . . . get set. . . GOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

We did it!! Here is where I started to cry because I was just so proud of my mommy for doing this with me. 5 miles is a long way, and for her to do that with me and be excited and not complaining at all was just so great! She was so motivated and ready!

5 mile run . . check! Next and last event is the 2 1/2 mile snowshoe walk!

p.s. - thank you so much to my awesome hubby and pup, Behren, for coming to the race with us, capturing all these moments, and cheering us on. It was so nice.

Sommer's 30th!

Also over labor day weekend (it was a crazy one), we celebrated Sommer's 30th Birthday!

This was also the first time seeing Bowen since the day he was born at the hospital (so this was pretty much the only picture I took of Sommer. . . but the party was great! Lots of yummy food and cookies and cream ice cream cake from ColdStone)!

Labor day weekend we celebrated my cousin, Austin's, 7th birthday!

He had already had the party with his friends before we got there, but he was still all sugared up from the cake and all the kids were running around like crazy!

Bird Banding @ Presque Isle!

For labor day, one of my bff's KC, and I decided to head to Presque Isle to get one last day of summer in.

We wanted to start the day out on a free pontoon boat ride, but even after KC arriving only minutes after 10am (you sign up at 10am for all rides that day), the 11am and 1pm rides were already booked!

Bummer!

So we decided to take a walk around Misery Bay instead.

KC saw a path, and said "should we go down here?"
And I said "it looks like drug dealing".

It was just a random path that didn't seem to lead to anywhere, with a bunch of cars parked all randomly. So as we stood there trying to decide if we wanted to take the chance, a park ranger pulled up to us and said "do you ladies know where you are going?" Nope. Not a clue. Us - "We are just walking around." Park ranger - "You might want to check this out. It might be bird banding."

Does anyone else know what bird banding is?

Yeah. We didn't either. So we had to check it out.

It was pretty cool! They actually let me release a bird they had caught in one of the nets (after they wrote down a ton of information on it). That little thing was so gosh darn cute! I was scared I was going to crush it. It was so fragile in my massive hands!

I definitely recommend checking it out if you are an animal/bird lover! Here is their website with more information. They catch some pretty awesome looking birdies!!

Crawford County Fair!

I know you don't care that I have been busy, and you probably don't care that I haven't posted in a while . . . but get ready for a post frenzy!!!

Shane and I actually made it to the Crawford County Fair this year! Last year it rained and rained, so we didn't make it out, but this year we got to sneak in a quick trip! (Next year I am determined to go to one of the country concerts)!

Most of our time was spent looking at all the cute animals!

We got a huge lemonade shortly after we got there, and never really felt good once we drank it (blame it on the 90% sugar). So we got some cotton candy for the road and headed on home.

Craigslist

First let me say . . . HOLY MOLY I HAVE BEEN BUSY!!! So sorry if you were sooooooooo excited to read my updated blog and it wasn't updated (I know there are so many of you).

But ok . . back into things:

While I write this, the clothes dryer and treadmill we got from craigslist will go ka-blew-ee!, and the people who we got it from will be stalking us, but for now what I really want to say is this . . .

Craigslist is AWESOME!

Basically it has saved us $1,750 already.

Proof:

Treadmill I wanted to get: $1,500
Treadmill we got off of craigslist : $100

Dryer we would get new from store : $400
Dryer we got off of craigslist: $50

And they both work perfectly fine (knock on wood)!

But seriously. I'm really excited about them, because $1,750 is a lot of money that we saved. Hmm . . . . maybe I should show this to my husband and prove to him that he owes me a fun vacation now!

And I'm always so paranoid that the people selling all these things are axe murderers, but in both cases, they were so nice and so down to earth!

I love it.

Mase & Josh's Wedding!

Mase (Amy) & Josh got married last Friday, August 20th!!

Thursday, we went and got our nails done at Coventina. Here is Mase under the dryer.

That night we had the rehearsal and helped set up a few things at the church.

Mase forgot her awesome ribbon bouquet (that I made) and her marriage license . . so she was kinda stressed at this moment in time but really was awesome overall.. . we thought we were going to have big time Bridezilla but she was very nice and relaxed . . . i think it might've been the xanax . . just sayin . .

These two get the "most awesome couple" award. I mean come on . . how cool do they look together!? So cute. (Best man - Tyler - and his wife).

I think this is where the church coordinator was yelling at us for not paying attention.

The details were awesomeeeeeee. I didn't really have time to take too many pics, so most of these were actually taken by my amazzzzzzing husband, Shane.

For rehearsal dinner we went to Serafini's. We got yummy iced tea, watered down coke, and bread and butter for dinner. Just kidding . . . they were just super busy so we had a nice, long, relaxing dinner. It was fun (seriously.)!

Jess & Jase's Wedding!

Last Saturday we went to a beautiful wedding for Shane's high school friend and his now wife.

It was hard to get pictures because people kept standing up in front of me, but here is Jason right before Jess came down the aisle. Love it.

Saying vows! I forgot at a Catholic wedding that they kiss in the middle and not at the end, and I accidentally blurted out a "sh*t!" because I missed getting the picture. Ooops!

The new Mr. & Mrs. heading out of the church (I've realized I use too many angles when I take pictures. I need to stop that).

Matt B (one of Shane's good friends from high school) came home for the wedding (lives in Minnesota now), and we had a couple hours to blow before the reception, so we all hung out at our house and I made them pose for some pictures.

Bryce's 2nd Birthday Party!

Today marks Bryce's (our niece) actual 2nd birthday!

But we celebrated her birthday last Saturday . . . . My Little Pony style.

We were originally going to have to miss it because of a wedding, but Bry & Sommer changed the time after the fact so we could make it, and I'm so glad, because it was killing me knowing I was going to have to miss her birthday party.

I can't believe two years has passed by since the little peanut was born. She has grown into such a smart and beautiful girl already. We are so proud of her and so blessed to have her in our lives.

Best Decision of My Life . . . .

Three years ago I made the best decision of my life when I married my husband, Shane.

We have gone through A LOT in just three years . . . . moving to Virginia for jobs, renting an apartment, buying a house in Virginia, moving back home to PA, living with our parents, buying a house in PA, three deaths in the family, three births in the family . . . . just to name a few.

We've also been to Mexico, NYC, Germany, Austria, Utah, and I feel like I'm forgetting twenty other places.

Of all the things we've gone through, and all the places we have been, I wouldn't have wanted to do those or gone there with any other person but Shane. He understands me (for the most part) and truly accepts me for who I am.

We have so much fun together and are seriously one of the best teamworkers ever! Whenever one of us is stuck with something, the other comes along, and whatever the problem was is immediately fixed some how! It's crazy. But I love it. And I love him.

3 wonderful years already and the best is yet to be . . .

Baby Boy Rock's Party!

Our baby nephew is due anytime now, but we had a party to celebrate him and his family. We decided to go with a "Baby Nemo" theme for two reasons. 1) our niece, Bryce, LOOOVES nemo 2) because of this Bry (baby daddy) joked that their baby would be "Baby Nemo".

Since the movie is 7 years old, I had to order everything online, but I was still able to find everything I needed!

I made several of these to put around, but this was my favorite.

Here are the goodies I passed out to Bryce and Aly (my other niece)!

Thanks to the idea from one of my BFF's, we decided to change our address for the day.

The Following Took Place Between 4:00AM and 5:00AM . . .

4:00AM - I lay peacefully asleep.
4:01 AM - I spring into a sitting position as my cat, Jinx, sneezes RIGHT in my face. I mean literally, my face got wet from it. Gross. I say "Jinx!" - and lightly toss her off the bed.
4:14 AM - Finally get back to sleep.
4:15 AM - Jinx jumps back on bed, on me, and starts kneading me, as she purrs like a freight train right in my face. She then continues on and starts kneading my hair and basically lays right on my head. I say "Jinx! That's enough." - and lightly toss her off the bed.
4:29 AM - Finally back to sleep.
4:30 AM - Tag Team! Nina (other kitty) jumps on bed and jumps on me. Starts kneading me. Then comes over to the side right in my face and rubs her head on mine (while she also is purring like a freight train). She then tries to stick her head under my hand so that I pet her. I say "Nina! That's enough." - and throw her all the way across the room! Kidding! I lightly toss her off the bed.
4:44 AM - Finally back to sleep (kinda).
4:45 AM - Nina jumps back on the bed. Starts purring and sitting on my head. At this point, I'm just starting to get extremely frustrated. Why can't our kitties let us sleep!? This happens EVERY night. Except usually not for an hour straight. So I let her just lay on my head thinking maybe she'll stop purring and I can just go back to sleep.
5:00 AM - Motor mouth is still purring away. Me - "Shaneeeeeeeeee. The cats won't leave me alone. I've been up since 4 AM. I'm going to cry." Shane then picks up Nina off my head, goes and finds Jinx, and puts them in our computer room for the remainder of the morning so I can get some sleep.

Now, ideally Apple would release the iPhone to Verizon and I would not have this stupid issue, but rumors keep floating, and I'm not seeing any truth to the fact that Verizon will have iPhones any time soon. (Also, my current phone has to be charged 2 to 3 times a day, and always shuts down during calls. . . beyond frustrated.)

Mrs. Snapping Turtle

Remember when I told you about our fun visitors, one being Mr. Snapping Turtle? I stand corrected. It was Mrs. Snapping Turtle.

Unfortunately, when we were weeding our garden and planting some flowers last night, we found the eggs (these are not actual eggs found).

Shane thought they were styrofoam balls .. almost look like ping pong balls. I said, "maybe they are eggs", right as Shane was cutting one in half because he thought it was styrofoam. And he said, "yep. It's an egg." We (I) almost cried. So we buried them all back. Then, when looking online to see if they really were snapping turtle eggs, we found out they were. And found out another sad tid bit. The eggs cannot be rotated, or the embryos die. :-( We have no idea how many were in there or how many rotated, but we feel so bad. I cannot stop thinking about it.

The baby turtles have a long waddle back to the ponds too, and from this site, it says they still stand a tough journey back.

Praying that all the eggs were rotated back to normal and that all the baby turtles make it to the ponds safely.

We've been getting quite the visitors at our new house:

Mr. Snapping Turtle

Miss Humming Bird

So . . .this was from June maybe? And I had to brighten the picture up so you could actually see, but all those yellow dots are lightning bugs! The one night we looked out and it was like a Christmas light show. They were all up and down our back yard. It was crazy. Must have been mating night.

Lots of finches! We've had other birds too, but these are the prettiest!

Lots of hummingbirds! They are the coolest birds ever! (Ignore the nastiness at the top of the feeder. I finally found a bottle cleaner long enough from Wild Birds Unlimited so it's clean now.)

And we actually got another feeder that they can sit on (so they don't have to flap their little wings like crazy when they eat). It's so neat to see them just sitting. Will have to take some pictures of that too.

Some things we've learned about hummingbirds:
1) they are so pretty
2) they are soooooo tiny
3) they have this cute little chirp they do
4) they will actually get really close to you. they want their food. (we might attempt feeding from our hands one day.)
5) when they fly close to you, their wings flapping is such a loud buzzing noise
6) they are very territorial. if one hummingbird is feeding, another will come and chase it away.
7) don't use red food dye (it doesn't matter. clear attracts fine. and supposedly the red dye might cause brain tumors in them).
8) you don't have to boil your mixture (4 parts water, 1 part sugar)
9) they aren't as expensive to feed as the other birds, but i have to clean their feeders every week (at least). it's pretty nasty.
10) they are afraid of bumble bees (a bumble bee was challenging a humming bird to the feeder. bumble bee won.)

Relay 4 Life 2010

Friday, Shane and I walked in the Relay For Life at Fairview Highschool. We raised $280 for the American Cancer Society (thank you to all those who donated!!)!

Personally, I have had several family members that have struggled with cancer.

One day there will be a cure, but until then we will all continue to fight back!

Nephew Countdown!

This Sunday marks only ONE MONTH until my Nephew is due! So crazy.

I won't lie, the anticipation was a little more intense for Bryce (my niece) because she was the first one and because my brother-in-law and sister-in-law were trying for two years (where as nephew was right away), but I can guarantee you that I am still freaking out about it and so excited and cannot wait to meet him! I will be spoiling him and loving him just as much as I do Bryce.

But since I don't have any pictures of the little dude yet, here are some of Bryce and Mommy:

July 4th - Backyard Fireworks!

So when we moved into our neighborhood, our neighbor came over and introduced her and her husband as the "crazy neighbors that have the huge fireworks display". She wanted to let us know that if we wanted to have a July 4th party, they would be having fireworks. Now . . . with Shane's fam being from the area, we were aware of the fireworks. They are a pretty big deal, but having front row seats to it all was something we were KINDA excited about. Wish we could have planned a bigger party, but maybe next year!

They put up "NO PARKING" signs along the entire side of the road.

This was two hours before the fireworks actually went off. The entire road is lined with cars by show time!

We had a few people over (my parents, Behren, KC, her parents, and Sommer, Bry, & Bryce), so Shane made a kickin bonfire and we had some smores. I also had some fruit, philly chili cheese dip, crackers, and brownies out too.

Decided to bust out some sparklers before the big fireworks.

We had a lot of fun with them.

Maybe a little too much fun . . .

The fireworks lasted for 30 minutes! And there were some pretty big ones!

It was so nice to be able to see some fireworks this year since most of Erie cancelled theirs . . . and to be able to watch them from our backyard was even better.

Chautauqua Lake - 4th of July!

We spent part of our 4th of July weekend in Chautauqua! Shane's mom and step-dad have an awesome lake house there. We drove up Friday night after work, and headed to Watermark for dinner on the lake. Then we took the boat back to the cottage.

Here is Bryce all bundled up. It was cold on the boat at night!

These were so fun! Jamaica Me Happy was my favorite.

Saturday we got up to go to the big parade they have. Here is Bryce & Aly waiting for more candy to be thrown.

When we were in Disney, they had these awesome bubble blowers that I wanted to get, but they were like $15 bucks and I didn't know how I'd get them on the plane with all the liquid laws.
But then when I was at Walgreens to get some cards, I found a bubble blower for $3! It was quite the hit!

After OD'ing on candy and getting way too much (and sweating profusely in the 90 degree sunny weather), we decided to head back to the cottage so we could get ready to go out on the lake.

We drove around for a bit on the big boat, then had a relaxing cruise in these boats.

Then we went for a little swim (it was still FREEZING in the water)! So we didn't stay in very long. It was a great weekend and we had so much fun! Next year we will have to stay for the fireworks on the lake!

Austin's T-Ball Game!

A while back my cousin Austin had his last T-Ball game, so we all headed out to support him!

So intense and into the game!

I'm not sure if other people do this too, but for some reason the tongue sticking out has been a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation. I remember my grandpa used to do it when he was working on things, as did my dad, my uncle, my cousins, and myself.

Here is where the coach said "that was the best I've seen you guys in the outfield! You were great!"

Yay! They won. So did the other team. Gotta love t-ball. Everyone hits the ball. Everyone runs. Everyone gets a trophy.

It really is so great to watch my cousins grow up. It's crazy how fast time flies. When I wake up tomorrow, he'll be playing in the major leagues!

Daddy's Birthday!

Sunday marked my daddy's 55th birthday. Am I allowed to write that?!

A fun collage I made him with pictures from when he was younger, some pictures of his other birthdays, and some pictures of all of us together.

For his birthday, my mom, dad, and Behren came over to our house to have some steaks on the grill, accompanied with some champagne (the cork flew like 5o feet in the air when it was opened), fresh fruit, potatoes, ranch cucumbers, and of course . . . cake!
I called my mom up a couple days before his birthday to see if she wanted me to order the cake or if she wanted to, and she said she already ordered it. . . I was kinda bummed because I REALLY wanted to get palm trees on his cake. I don't know why, I just did (he really likes warm weather). Turns out, when I asked what she got on it, she said "palm trees and a tropical theme"! Perfect. (She got the cake from International Bakery in case anyone was wondering).

So then, Behren helped my daddy open up all his presents.

And my daddy shared some of his gifts with Behren for all his hard work.

It is sooooooooo nice being home (and having our own house) and being able to celebrate all these special occasions with my family! One of these days (when I win the lottery . . . after I start playing the lottery), I'll be able to actually take my dad somewhere tropical for his birthday! Or heck, maybe we could all just live somewhere like that! I love you so much daddy!! :-)

Mommy and Me Quad! 12 Mile Bike Ride!

If you remember, my mom and I signed up to do the Highmark Quad. (See here for details of the quad). We completed the swim back in April, and had the 12 mile bike race on Saturday, July 10.

Don't let the sweet jersey fool you. I'm really not that good. GE wanted to support us and get more people involved at work by providing us with jerseys to wear at the race. They were pretty awesome. And it was so cool to see so many people from GE (in their jerseys) doing the bike race!

Here my mom and I just finished! I didn't want to make Shaney stay the entire race (it's not like the swim where he could watch us the entire time), so he got there right as we were walking over to the "thank goodness there is water and powerade tent". (Shane is how we got pictures of this event and I am so thankful to him for capturing these memories).

I stuck with my mommy the entire time, and she stuck with me. We were each others cheerleaders. And when this little 10 year old kid passed us for the fourth time, we just looked at each other and laughed, and it was just such a great mommy and me experience.

I just love her so much, and I am beyond proud of her for doing this with me. She is already so busy with work (going above & beyond), busy taking care of her mother who has Alzheimer's (feeding her and spending the night with her so they don't have to put her in a nursing home) , busy taking care of her mother-in-law who also has Alzheimer's, busy taking care of her hubby and doggy and kitty, and busy taking care of the neighborhood kids that she takes to playgrounds and cooks for. So for her to take more time to do this with me is just so great and so inspiring. Never have I met someone who spends so much of their time helping other people. I look up to her in so many ways, and I love her with all my heart.

Tyler's 3rd Birthday!

June 13th marked my cousin Tyler's 3rd birthday (and also the 3rd year since my grandfather's death . . . but we won't get into that because then I will cry). Also, let's ignore the fact that this is almost a month later . . . .

So great to spend time with all of them. They are so cute! And growing up so fast!

Mase's Bridal Shower!

One of my BFF's, Mase (Amy, the A, dorkster, Mamy, Jamy, Ace'n Mason, gooshzilla, bridezilla, Sneezy, not my friend, SKANK, Amers) is getting married in a little over a month! Her sister and mother (with help from aunts, friends, and her bridesmaids) put on an amazing bridal shower. The details were awesome and it was so beautiful.

We all put together some baskets for people to win. KT put the titles on the bag, and I specifically enjoyed this one the best.

The theme was English Garden Tea Party (Mase was born in England).

The food was delish! Scones, trifles, croissants, sandwiches, and fruit!

Here is the soon-to-be-bride, KT, KC, and Captain Bill (her daddy-o). He got her a prezzie that consisted of some books and a "Paws Off" pajama set.
